CityGrip provides 24/7 mobile tyre change on the M3, covering J1 to J14 including the hard shoulder and the emergency refuge areas on the smart-motorway sections. We fit your spare, supply and fit a replacement tyre if you have no spare, deal with locking wheel nuts and seized wheels, or recover the vehicle if the tyre cannot be changed safely on a live carriageway. Motorway mobile tyre change runs from £250 to £750 depending on the tyre and vehicle, with the exact price agreed before we set off. Call 07960 200253 for a mobile tyre fitter near you on the M3.

The M3 is the fast route from London to Hampshire, Winchester and Southampton and the ferry ports, with an all-lane-running smart section at the London end where a flat tyre leaves you with nowhere to pull in. Our tyre vans cover the M25 interchange and the northern M3 directly, and our national network covers the Hampshire end.

M3 mobile tyre FAQs

Does the M3 have a hard shoulder?

Between Junctions 2 and 4a the M3 runs as smart motorway with all lanes open and no permanent hard shoulder, so your only refuge there is an emergency refuge area. South of that it is largely conventional with a hard shoulder.

Do you cover the M3 to Southampton and the ferry ports?

Yes. We cover the M3 from Junction 1 at Sunbury to Junction 14 at Southampton and the M27, including the Fleet and Winchester services. If you are heading for a ferry or cruise, tell us when you call.

Does the M3 have a smart-motorway section without a hard shoulder?

Yes. Between Junctions 2 and 4a the M3 runs all lanes with no permanent hard shoulder, so a flat there is especially dangerous and your only refuge is an emergency refuge area. South of Junction 4a it is largely conventional with a hard shoulder.

How much is a mobile tyre change on the M3?

Motorway mobile tyre change runs from £250 to £750. It costs more than an ordinary roadside tyre change (from £90) because it is done on a live, high-speed carriageway with the correct warning equipment and safety procedures. A common tyre on a standard car sits at the lower end; a large, low-profile, run-flat or 4×4 tyre supplied at night sits at the upper end. We agree the exact figure on the phone before we set off.

Can you fit a tyre if I have no spare near J1 Sunbury on the M3?

Yes. Most new cars carry no spare, only a sealant kit, which cannot fix a sidewall cut or a blowout. We can supply and fit a matching tyre at the roadside near J1 Sunbury where it is safe to do so, or recover you towards J4a-5 Fleet services if it is not.

Should I change the tyre myself between J1 Sunbury and J14 Southampton on the M3?

No. Changing a wheel anywhere on the M3, whether that is up by J1 Sunbury or down towards J14 Southampton, is one of the most dangerous things you can do on a motorway. Get everyone out of the left-hand doors and behind the safety barrier, and call us. If you are stuck in a live lane and cannot get out safely, stay belted in with your hazards on and call 999.

How do I tell you exactly where I am on the M3?

Give us 'M3', the last junction you passed (for example J9 Winchester), your direction of travel, and the number on the nearest blue marker post or the driver location sign on the verge. That pins your position to within about 100 metres so we reach you quickly.

Can you change tyres on vans and 4x4s on the M3?

Yes. We change tyres on cars, vans, 4x4s and light commercials anywhere along the M3, and carry the equipment for larger wheels, locking nuts and wheels seized to the hub.

My car has run-flat tyres, do I still need you on the M3?

Run-flats let you keep going a limited distance at reduced speed, typically around 50 miles at up to 50mph, but that is a get-you-off-the-M3 measure, not a repair, and many run-flats cannot be repaired at all once run flat. Leave at the next exit if you safely can, then call us to supply and fit a replacement or recover you.

My tyre pressure warning light has come on near J2 M25, can I carry on?

Treat it as a warning that something is wrong. A slow puncture can become a blowout at M3 speeds. Ease off, leave at the next exit if you can do so safely and check the tyre. If it is going down, do not carry on, get somewhere safe and call us.

What is the legal tyre tread depth for driving the M3?

The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread and around the whole circumference, the same limit anywhere in the UK. Below that you risk a fine and penalty points for each illegal tyre, and grip and wet braking fall away long before you reach the limit. Any tyre we supply and fit is legal and correctly matched to your vehicle.
