Motorway mobile tyre change runs from £250 to £750 depending on the tyre and vehicle, with the exact price agreed before we set off. Call 07960 200253 for a mobile tyre fitter near you on the M2.
The M2 still carries heavy Kent commuter and North Kent port traffic across the Medway Viaduct even though the M20 took over as the main Channel crossing route in 1991. Our tyre vans and network cover the full route from Rochester to Canterbury, reaching your junction with the equipment to change the wheel or fit a replacement.
M2 mobile tyre FAQs
Is the M2 the main route to the Channel Tunnel?
No, not any more. The M2 was originally intended for that role, but the M20 took over as the main London-to-Channel-Ports link once it reached Folkestone in 1991. The M2 still carries heavy traffic to the North Kent ports at Sheerness and Ramsgate and to Canterbury.
Do you cover the Medway Viaduct on the M2?
Yes. We cover the full M2 from Junction 1 at Strood to Junction 7 near Canterbury, including the Medway Viaduct between Junctions 1 and 3, which was widened from four to eight lanes between 2000 and 2003.
How much is a mobile tyre change on the M2?
Motorway mobile tyre change runs from £250 to £750. It costs more than an ordinary roadside tyre change (from £90) because it is done on a live, high-speed carriageway with the correct warning equipment and safety procedures. A common tyre on a standard car sits at the lower end; a large, low-profile, run-flat or 4×4 tyre supplied at night sits at the upper end. We agree the exact figure on the phone before we set off.
Can you fit a tyre if I have no spare near J1 Strood & Rochester on the M2?
Yes. Most new cars carry no spare, only a sealant kit, which cannot fix a sidewall cut or a blowout. We can supply and fit a matching tyre at the roadside near J1 Strood & Rochester where it is safe to do so, or recover you towards J4-5 Medway services if it is not.
Should I change the tyre myself between J1 Strood & Rochester and J7 Canterbury & Dover on the M2?
No. Changing a wheel anywhere on the M2, whether that is up by J1 Strood & Rochester or down towards J7 Canterbury & Dover, is one of the most dangerous things you can do on a motorway. Get everyone out of the left-hand doors and behind the safety barrier, and call us. If you are stuck in a live lane and cannot get out safely, stay belted in with your hazards on and call 999.
How do I tell you exactly where I am on the M2?
Give us 'M2', the last junction you passed (for example J4-5 Medway services), your direction of travel, and the number on the nearest blue marker post or the driver location sign on the verge. That pins your position to within about 100 metres so we reach you quickly.
Can you change tyres on vans and 4x4s on the M2?
Yes. We change tyres on cars, vans, 4x4s and light commercials anywhere along the M2, and carry the equipment for larger wheels, locking nuts and wheels seized to the hub.
My car has run-flat tyres, do I still need you on the M2?
Run-flats let you keep going a limited distance at reduced speed, typically around 50 miles at up to 50mph, but that is a get-you-off-the-M2 measure, not a repair, and many run-flats cannot be repaired at all once run flat. Leave at the next exit if you safely can, then call us to supply and fit a replacement or recover you.
My tyre pressure warning light has come on near J2 Strood & Chatham, can I carry on?
Treat it as a warning that something is wrong. A slow puncture can become a blowout at M2 speeds. Ease off, leave at the next exit if you can do so safely and check the tyre. If it is going down, do not carry on, get somewhere safe and call us.
What is the legal tyre tread depth for driving the M2?
The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread and around the whole circumference, the same limit anywhere in the UK. Below that you risk a fine and penalty points for each illegal tyre, and grip and wet braking fall away long before you reach the limit. Any tyre we supply and fit is legal and correctly matched to your vehicle.
