Green Lanes and The Triangle, the spine of the town

Green Lanes (the A105) is the road Palmers Green is built around. The stretch through the town centre and on to Winchmore Hill runs about 2.2 miles, ending at Mason's Corner where Green Lanes meets Green Dragon Lane and Ridge Avenue at the edge of Enfield Town. The wider road is 6.3 miles long from Newington Green. Along the Palmers Green section there is a continuous segregated cycle track, part of the borough's Cycle Enfield scheme, which took some kerbside space and narrowed the general traffic lane. If you've broken down on Green Lanes itself, that narrower carriageway matters: there is less room to pull fully clear, and less room for us to work safely once we arrive.

The busiest single point is The Triangle, the junction of Green Lanes and Station Road right outside Palmers Green station. Buses queue here through the day and pedestrians cross constantly, so a car stopped nearby holds up more than its own lane. If you're stuck at or near The Triangle, tell us on the call. We'd rather talk you through getting a few yards onto a side road, such as towards the station forecourt or into Alderman's Hill, than have you sit in the middle of the busiest junction in Palmers Green waiting for us.

The North Circular and Bounds Green Interchange

The A406 North Circular forms the southern edge of Palmers Green and is a Red Route: stopping is banned at all times, and it's TfL's Civil Enforcement Officers who enforce it, not Enfield Council. Where Green Lanes meets the A406 and the A1110 Bowes Road, at the Bounds Green Interchange, orbital North Circular traffic mixes with local Green Lanes flow and it's a well known place for delays to build through the morning, even after the two-lane widening finished back in 2010.

If you've broken down on or right by the North Circular here, don't wait on the red route itself. Put your hazards on, and if you can move at all, get onto Green Lanes or one of the side roads off the interchange before we arrive. If you can't move the car safely, say so on the call and we'll talk you through what to do while we're on our way, rather than have you standing on a live carriageway.

Broomfield Park, the Lakes Estate and where you can stop

Broomfield Park itself, 21 hectares around the old Broomfield House and the New River, borders some of the narrowest streets in the area. The Fox Lane (Lakes Estate) conservation area, designated by the council in 2010, is built up with Edwardian houses close to the pavement and heavy on-street parking, so kerb-to-kerb space for a recovery vehicle is tight, especially on a street with cars on both sides. We'll bring a vehicle sized for the job when we know the street in advance, which is another reason it helps to tell us exactly where you are rather than just "Palmers Green".

On parking restrictions: a proposed "Palmers Green East" controlled parking zone was consulted on in 2024 but scrapped by the council in March 2025 after only 13% of respondents backed it, so that specific scheme isn't in force. We haven't been able to confirm whether any separate, older CPZ covers other parts of N13, so if you're not sure, check the signs on your street or Enfield's own parking pages rather than assuming either way.

If you break down on Green Lanes itself

Green Lanes carries the segregated cycle track for most of its length through the town centre, and there have been reports of standing water on that cycle lane in wet weather. If you break down on the main carriageway, put your hazards on and, if it's safe to do so, try to get fully off the running lane rather than half-blocking it and the cycle track both. A side turning such as onto Alderman's Hill, Bourne Hill, or one of the roads off The Triangle is usually a better place to wait than the middle of Green Lanes itself.
