The A111 down from Palmers Green, and why Cat Hill matters

Cockfosters Underground station is the Piccadilly line's northern terminus, a Grade II listed building designed by Charles Holden and opened in 1933, sitting directly on Cockfosters Road about nine miles out from central London. Chalk Lane, Games Road and the edge of Monken Hadley Common
Chalk Lane, in EN4, is home to the Cockfosters Sports Ground, used by both Cockfosters F.C. and Cockfosters Cricket Club, and to The Cock Inn, a 1930s roadhouse pub with its distinctive green pantile roof and clock tower, a short walk from Trent Primary School and the tube station.
Games Road runs from Chalk Lane west into Monken Hadley Common, an old bridleway with Grade II listed gates marking the point where the public road becomes Common land, and the London Loop walking trail passes along it. We have not found any posted width or weight limit at those gates, but a lane that narrows into a heritage gateway is exactly the kind of spot where we send a smaller vehicle first rather than assume a full-size flatbed will get through.
