Wood Green High Road and the A105
Wood Green High Road carries the A105 north from Turnpike Lane, past Wood Green Underground station and into the run of shops that make up Wood Green Shopping City. Turnpike Lane and the bus station
Turnpike Lane itself is a three-way meeting of Turnpike Lane, the High Road and Green Lanes, with a bus station tucked behind the Underground station serving nine routes: the 121, 123, 144, 184, 217, 221, 231, 329 and 444. Buses laying over here, pedestrians crossing between the tube and the shops, and traffic filtering three ways at once make this one of the tighter spots to work in.

Noel Park's terraced streets
Noel Park, the grid of Victorian terraces between the High Road and Lordship Lane, was built by the Artizans, Labourers and General Dwellings Company between 1881 and 1913 and has been a conservation area with an Article 4 Direction since 1982. It's a dense estate with cars parked on both sides of narrow streets, and only two roads, Gladstone Avenue and Lymington Avenue, connect it directly to the High Road. There's no through route for vehicles from the south-east side of the estate out to the surrounding streets, so if you've broken down somewhere in the middle of the grid, we're coming in and going back out via one of those same two avenues.
On Saturdays, Lymington Avenue also hosts a street-food and craft market from 11am to 5pm, run with Wood Green BID and Karnival Markets, which takes up road space on the one street you might otherwise use to get out. Wood Green Shopping City, known today as The Mall Wood Green, opened in May 1981 and covers 617,000 square feet with 101 shops, 45 further stalls and a 1,500-space car park. Both public entrances, the east one off Gladstone Avenue (N22 6LN) and the west one off Caxton Road, which runs from Mayes Road (N22 6TB), carry a 6'6" (1.98m) height limit. Haringey Civic Centre, the council's Grade II listed headquarters at 255 High Road (N22 8LE), sits about five minutes' walk from Wood Green tube on this same stretch, so if you break down anywhere between the Civic Centre and the Lordship Lane junction, you're on the busiest few hundred metres of the whole A105/A109 crossing. We'd usually ask you to hazard-light the car, stay well back on the pavement, and give us the nearest shopfront or bus stop rather than a rough estimate of distance.
Bounds Green low traffic neighbourhood
The Bounds Green low traffic neighbourhood sits along the western edge of the area, with ten filters, eight camera-enforced and two physical, that have been in place since August 2022 and were kept in place after the council's December 2024 review. The Bruce Grove and West Green LTN, over towards Lordship Lane and West Green Road, works the same way on the Tottenham side.
